Intel PROSet Wireless software

#1 Post by elightman » Fri Sep 05, 2008 1:43 am

Hi all,

Hate to post about this but it's driving me crazy. I would very much like to use the Intel software for managing my wireless networking, as Windows' has been giving me some trouble. I'm running XP on a R61i. I can't for the life of me figure out where the client software is (have tried downloading everything from Lenovo's website as well). When I downloaded Access Connections, it magically appeared, but when I got rid of Access Connections, it disappeared. Is there any way to run the PRO/Set Wireless software withou the Access Connections bloatware?

Thanks!

any of the packages listed --> on this page <-- look like they match your configuration? you shouldn't need acc conn at all. in fact, it's one of the first things i remove from any reimage i do.

None of these packages (I have tried them all) seem to include the software, only the drivers. (Yes, even the ones that say they include the software.)

are you running a factory install or a recovery set install?
do you have this folder on your machine: C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\WLANCX2A\APPS

the proset installer(s) are there on my t43 with it's recovery disk install.

I wiped the machine when I got it and installed XP myself (no thanks on Vista), so I don't have that folder.

I have tried running the installer in C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANINT2\XP\Apps\x32, but it appears to only install the driver. If the app is somewhere, I don't know where it is to be found -- there are no shortcuts installed, and there don't appear to be any executables anywhere I can find them.

Go to Intel's site directly, (Google search) and download either the drivers or the full software suite for your N wireles.

I have an intel card in my R30 which works well. Regarding the drivers, i used a cd that came with the wireless card (i bought the card not aware that ibm use pci id's to selectively restrict what pci cards cn be used inside the thinkpads, so i got lucky i got the right card at a guess, very sneaky ibm!). I later downloaded the newest drivers and management software from intel's website directly and it's been working fantastically on my R30 for about 12 months now.
