A31p dead, does not boot up

#1 Post by CWBudde » Thu Sep 18, 2008 3:31 am

Hello,

since about one week my A31p is dead again. It already happend once for 2 weeks about 3 month ago. At that time I was in Rio de Janeiro and it failed to boot. When I traveled back it was still dead, but when I shaked it (and checked again) it worked. Since then it was working flawlessly until one week ago, when I moved the notebook.

The problem is, that first several LEDs flash up, then only one. No fan, no HD, no beep. I also removed everything possible and started again, but the same problem. It doesn't even beep then.

I found a similar problem in this forum with another dead notebook. The problem there was a lost conductor. So I disassembled the whole notebook to find the problem. Yet I did not find anything wrong, beside a bug (a real one, but as dead as my notebook). Also the security chip was not completely firm on its position (but might have happend during disassembly).

I will make a photo of the mobo tomorrow, perhaps someone can help me with it (or at least have another look)

Any thoughts so far? Btw. does anyone know if bugs conduct?

Thanks in advance,

Christian

Welcome to the forum!

The very fact that you've brought the machine back to life by shaking it makes me believe that you have a GPU problem...try pressing on it gently and see whether the machine boots then...

Good luck.

Hi again,

I now put everything back in place and tried to reboot the machine, but without any success :-(
I then tried pressing gently on the GPU and see what happens. Unfortunately it still doesn't boot up. The same behaviour.

Can you tell me if the GPU problem manifests in the symptoms described? Do you think it's really the GPU? I never had any problems with it so far. Not even any strange lines on the display.

Also I uploaded the pictures of my motherboard. If someone experienced can have a look at it and see if there is something obvious wrong with it, please?

The pictures can be found here:

I'm sorry to say that everything you're saying points to replacement of system board as the only option...

Maybe someone else will come with a better idea...

Good luck.
