R31 Hard Drive Upgrade

#1 Post by npeevy » Mon Sep 22, 2008 11:28 am

My old R31 from college has finally slowed to the point that I am looking to upgrade the hard drive. Has anyone had experience with upgrading this machine?

After perusing the forums, it seems the R31's have a poor reputation. It makes me wonder if my dollars would be better spent in a new machine rather than upgrading this one. It's been a good computer but now it is so SLOW. I brought it up to 1 GB of RAM a few years back and it helped dramatically, but it's finally starting to show its age.

Any advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A newer faster hard drive can make a huge difference performance wise especially if you're running on a slower 4200RPM, which you likely are. I haven't done it on a R31, but can't imagine it's too tough. Grab the maintenance manual off Lenovo's site. It will explain how to do it if you're unsure.
