R32 Screen on a "T" Series

#1 Post by TomKroscavage » Thu Oct 02, 2008 4:05 pm

My former boss gave me an R32 a few years back with a lot of high dollar software on it. He said it was too slow for him, "way too slow". He neglected this Thinkpad because he was busy making money, and losing the install disks. So with a spring in my step I took the R32 home and gave it some much needed CPR. When he said "slow" he meant it. The first Ad-Aware scan I ran I found 1600+ spyware files on it, and a whopping 115 running processes. I spent an entire day removing software like games and players and "shopping helpers". A helpful fellow in Iran and a collage student in Russia were fighting for control of this tiny piece of American real estate. I promptly relieved them of their burden. I cleaned up the software installed a 2.2GHz CPU and 1GB of pc2100 ram. I never replaced the dead battery because it stayed at home plugged into the wall. I was happily surfing the internet and making smiley faces in Auto-Cad when just last week this R32 started freezing up. I don't want to spend any more money on it replacing the motherboard but if I could buy a T30 or T40 with a broken screen for a $100 on ebay and get it going with this screen I would be very happy.

Here is my question: can I use the screen, memory and CPU from this R32 on any "T" series Thinkpad?

The RAM will only work on a T30 or T40. The CPU will only work on a T30.

I'll let someone else answer the screen question because I'm not positive and don't want to spread disinformation.

I think I can answer the memory question....

The R32 uses (is spec'ed) for DDR PC2100 (266Mhz) SODIMMs. That means it could also have PC27000 or rarely, PC3200 modules installed. T systems that are also designed to use PC2100 include T30 and T40. T41 systems and above require PC2700 (or faster) memory.
