Help! A31 AC connectivity issue.

#1 Post by edmund_l33 » Thu Jan 06, 2005 1:39 pm

Hello All:

My thinkpad A31 constantly switches itself back and forth from being plugged in to battery power mode even with the AC plugged in. The computer exhibits this behavior even when there is no AC plugged in and only running on battery. It keeps making those beeping noises (you know when you switch from AC to battery or vice versa) randomly. I would like to know if anyone knows which hardware part might be at fault and if it is replaceable. The machine is out of warranty, and I have access to some hardware engineers that might be able help me with soldering, removal of part etc.

By the way, does anyone know which number to call for IBM Thinkpad repair issues?

Thanks.

Calling from California, I have previously used 800-772-2227 (tech support, 24/7 - hardware only, not software issues) and 800-656-0833 (customer service, 6am-6pm PST). Ascertain your serial # and model type before callling.

Ac adapter vs. battery

#3 Post by Lauranmc » Sun Jan 16, 2005 6:22 pm

I have a similar problem......however my A30 quit doing the switching back and forth and I think something in the power jack is messed up. I have my battery icon in the taskbar....will run on battery but not on just ac power. Wierd thing is....the ac adapter charges the battery but the laptop will not run on ac power alone. What is the problem??? Its like the laptop doesn't recognize the ac acapter......therefore I can't update the bios or install service pack 2 which requires a fully charged battery pack and ac adapter plugged in. Help!!

I am having the same problem as above. My AC adapter works as I can remove my battery with the system running and AC plugged in and it runs ok, but the speed drops as if it were on battery.

With battery connected and AC also system says it is running on batteries. If I unplug the AC the system remains at full speed.

This is very frustrating and has been happening for about a month now. The machine seems to think it is on batteries when on AC and on AC when it is on batteries.
