G40? Fan Error and Temp.
I have a G40, I think. I bought it from my uncle and he obtained it from somebody else. It does say on the bottom "Type 2388" and researching online brings up the G40. Also, it is 3ghz.
Last week I had a Fan Error and it would shut down. I did some searching and found that the fan for this particular model would cost me around $300. That is twice as much as I payed for this laptop. Does anybody know of any cheaper fan assmblies for this model?
After searching this and other forums I decided to take the keypad off and investigate the fan, because it was spinning upon boot up and then stops as it has always done in the past. The fan spins easily and there is not a build up of dust. I decided to put the battery in and test it with the keypad off. It booted up with no problems.
I put the keypad back on and it worked great for about a week and then did it again. This time I got the Fan Error with the keypad off so I blew on both fans while it was booting and it booted fine.
Does anybody have any ideas why this would happen? I did install "MobileMeter" and the Temerature varies from 40*C to 60*C. Is this a normal temp. range.

I think very few of us have ever even seen a G40.
If this fan fits, it's quite a lot cheaper than $300.-

I just saw that one earlier today. I also found another site that had one for $30 and already ordered it. I hope it fixes the problem.
I have noticed the fan is now trying to spin in both directions and will not spin unless I give it a push. It is only the exhaust fan that is malfunctioning and is not causing any problems while the machine is running.
I am guessing (hopefully) that once I replace the fan, there will no more startup issues and the temperature will remain a little more consistant.
Does anybody know If I can only replace the exhaust fan or is this unit all one peice?
