R50 Startup Problem

#1 Post by Drumtochty » Sun Nov 02, 2008 2:20 pm

R50, Pentium 1.3, 512 Meg RAM 30 Meg HDD

The machine would not boot and the dreaded clicking hard drive.

Replaced the HDD with a Western Digital 100 Gig drive and reinstalled WINXP PRO from the original image.

It works well but after being turned off and left for some time it appears to start but does not boot.

Remove power and battery replace and it starts first time.

Any ideas on a fix for this problem.

If you just take the battery out, does it start on AC?
Then switch off, start again? (from a COLD start, not a reboot).
If so, you battery may have gone bad.
