Cannot Install Sound Drivers R51

Bit of a problem that I am currently stumped on...I have a R51 (1830BLU) and cannot get the sound to work after installing new HDD, WINXP and updating to SP3. They worked prior to getting new HDD and installing OS.

It says that no audio device is installed (greyed out). When I try to install the soundmax drivers it tell me that it "cannot find sound card, reboot and try again" (rebooted numerous times).

Things that I have done:
- Made sure the audio services are running (yes)
- Tried installing the correct soundmax drivers (from IBM R51)
- Tried installing driver manually (no luck)
- Disassembled to check connections (fine)

I'm running out of ideas. I can hear systems sounds (beeps) but nothing else.

This is frustrating.

just a guess, remove SP3 and go back to SP2.

windows doesnt install anything? - i mean default drivers, not ibm ones?
when i installed xp sp2 on the TR451 - windows, during setup installed some sort of driver for sound, and worked...
did you try searching for "new plug and play hardware"?
if it doesnt work - i suspect sometrhing wrong with your Sp3...

Run Lenovo's System Update.
SP3 should not hinder sound from working!
