security concern of buying R61

#1 Post by yst » Wed Nov 26, 2008 8:25 pm

HELLO:

I want to buy ThinkPad R61 because of the security feature:it has security chip ,client security solution.

1:Does client security solution any difference than Embedded Security Subsystem ?Is it different name for the same thing?

2:R61 do not have fingerprint reader, then can I buy the Lenovo USB Fingerprint Reader [$698.00] ,if this any difference than other T or X model when using it with thinkvantage security solution?
because R61 is more affordable ,and I only need security feature, if it is the same as T model ,then I can save a lot of money by adding a usb fingerprint reader.

3:when using with password manager ,does it have the same security functions as the more expansive T-model?

4:it also has TPM?isn,t it?(I think security chip is equal to TPM,isn't it?

5:the thinkvantage security software can be downloaded freely on the web site, isn't it?

6:the security softwares to be downloaded are the same as the more expansive T model, isn't it?

thanks you

For the average person, the Log On Password and Hard Drive Password (you could use different passwords for each) would be very secure.

The passwords are set in the BIOS and are pre-boot passwords.

The Hard Drive password will even protect the drive when it is removed from the ThinkPad. That password is imbedded in the hard drive firmware.
