A31 ram recommendations

#1 Post by ty18769 » Mon Dec 01, 2008 11:42 pm

Anyone ever have any experience running Micron Ram in an A31, or similar model. I'm looking to upgrade to 2 gigs of ram in my a31 and I'm looking at : MT16VDDF12864HY-335D2 Any thoughts? How picky are thinkpads in general with reference to RAM upgrades?

Micron is one of the top-tier memory manufacturers. I'd say that their quality rivals that of other major DRAM memory makers (Samsung, Toshiba, Elpida, Hynix, Nanya, Infineon). You generally will not go wrong with them. I don't believe that Thinkpads are any pickier than any other computer system as long as you stick to the recommended specs. Hmm.. okay, maybe you do need to know some things about low vs high density in older SDRAM PC66/PC100 systems, but that's about the only thing.

For the A31, that's DDRAM PC2100 (or faster) CL2.5 200 pin SODIMM. The Micron part you specified is PC2700 but otherwise should work. Be sure to fully test the module(s) with a diagnostic program such as memtest86+ for several hours.

Infineon DRAM is now branded as Qimonda, based in Singapore.

...and who is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. Not a fun time to be in the DRAM business (or flash for that matter).

<--- who (still, thankfully) works for an ex-DRAM and now flash maker

Also Powerchip is still in the business.

I bought a Corsair 4GB DDR2 kit. One of the two modules caused a cash while I was running a WinXP SP3 update. I didn't know it was the cause at the time and took a day to sort it out. Not fun.
