R51 with iffy graphics - a good buy?

#1 Post by cliddell » Mon Dec 08, 2008 11:30 am

Hello all

I am thinking of bidding on the following on Fleabay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IBM-ThinkPad-R51- ... dZViewItem

ISTR reading threads here about R series graphics problems. Can anyone out there give an opinion on whetheror not this might be worth a punt? TIA.

It depends on what you want. It could be a good deal if you are looking for a 15" screen and keyboard. If you are looking for a working machine, this isn't it. The graphics chip must be re-soldered. There is also no mention of battery, optical drive, memory and hard drive.

The description clearly states that a hard drive is not included. From the picture, you can also see its absent. If you go by the picture it looks like an optical drive is included, but that is iffy. Keep in mind that while its only $50 now, there are 4 days left, might not be such a great buy in 3 days 23 hours... don't get attached and pay too much.
