Keyboard sometimes locks

#1 Post by josner » Fri Jan 14, 2005 10:16 pm

My wife just recently got a R51 laptop and she loves it, but something a little strange has happened a couple of times now, that I'd like to figure out. She'll be e-mailing or typing in Word when suddenly the keyboard locks. When she presses a key the computer beeps instead of echoing the character. In this situation the mouse still works, so she can restart the computer from the Start Menu. Last time it happens I did some experiments and determined that the blue Fn key still works, I can press for example Fn+F4 to suspend, Fn to bring the computer back up, Fn+F12 to hibernate. But none of the other keys do anything but beep, until you reboot. Does anyone know what's going on? I tried calling tech support and they did not have a clue. I'm reluctant to return the computer and get a new one since that means installing everything all over again, but will do that if we can't figure anything else out.

seems IBM has some weird problems.

anyway i doubt they would trade a new one for you, even if you could demonstrate to them the problem on the spot!

they would try and fix it for you for such a tiny problem

even for bigger problems, they would try to fix, they would trade a new one for you only when the one you are holding are beyond repair, which we know are highly impossible.
