R50p UXGA display on another model

#1 Post by FragZero » Wed Dec 17, 2008 4:00 pm

Recently i acquired a R50p display for almost nothing ( complete, housing, inverter, display-cable ,antenna's, everything ..) and i really like the way the flexview display looks. So i'm thinking of replacing my current Compaq N620c with its awful xga display. So i'm hoping i can buy a cheap T4* with a broken panel and replace it with my UXGA

So my question is, what models will support my R50p UXGA display ?

I checked some service manuals myself, but i have no idea how i can see if i'll work.

I do have one problem with the display ( i saw it working before i got it), that is that it's red for the first 30 seconds it's on, then its working flawless. I guess this is a inverter problem?

Welcome to the forum!

Red boot means a dying backlight, not a bad inverter. You'd be wise to replace it before installing the screen.

This LCD will work in T4x series with a 15" LCD, and in R5x series as well. Make sure that you have the correct cable and inverter for the machine that will take the screen.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help !

The fact that it's the backlight itself and not the inverter is bad news, i've searched the net a bit and now i remember that the display had a subtle red shine on big white surfaces, but i thought that this was just a small bad thing about the flexview.

I've found some guides on the net on how to replace the backlight, but i also found some services that do it for 100+ $. Is it something i can do myself ?

Lets hope i can find a T4* for cheap with some components missing, since i have a dothan 1.6 2mb, 2x512mb, IBM 7K60 and IBM intel wifi card lying here doing nothing.
