USB GPS no lock when closing lid Z60m

#1 Post by MiroRIB » Sun Dec 21, 2008 4:03 am

Hello,

I have a Z60m with a external touchscreen 7" linked with a usb gps (mouse format). I use gpsgate and nroute. Everything works fine till I close the lid of the Z60m. The usb gps falls out and sometimes it gives again my position.
When I open up the lid, the gps is locking again within a second.

I think there is something wrong with the usb port... not enough power?

any idea?

Thanks

What is the lid switch setting in the Power Manager? When the lid switch is set to Standby, then USB ports would lose power also.

The setting is "Do nothing" and even then it loses power. Is there a possiblity to disable the lid switch or a LID setting in BIOS?

Check the BIOS Power settings. "Suspend when LCD is closed" may be set to "Suspend" instead of "Disable".

I checked the power settings in BIOS but I don't find the option "Suspend when LCD is closed". Do I miss a BIOS upgrade?

The BIOS Power screen is a long screen. You may need to scroll down to see it.

Check the same settings within windows built-in options (not power manager)...

Sorry, I don't find that screen. Is this when the laptop reboots and you have to hold down the blue thinkvantage button? When I do this, the rescue and recovery program starts up. When I hold down the F1 button at starting up, the bios is launched. There I don't find this option...

Control panel > Power Options > Advanced tab (here you can find options you are looking).

If you have Control panel organized in Category view, you can find Power Options under Performance and Maintenance category.

ok thanks, I already set it up to "Do nothing" when closing the LID.

At last, I'm beginning to think it is maybe normal?...

you should try it by yourself

set the power options when closing the lid "Do nothing"
then closing the lid very slow and you see about 2" from closing it, the lcd is turning off and that's the time that the USB port is loosing power. Is this familiar also with other laptops (other brands)?

OK, so I tried "do nothing" + close lid option...

Well, my r60 did exactly what it should do; display turn itself off, but USB ports still have power (and i can hear fan running)...

So, i guess you should see if power manager, power management driver and BIOS are up-to-date...
