recovering a G41

#1 Post by winslow » Tue Dec 30, 2008 3:16 am

Yesterday I tried installing silent hunter 4 on my G41, it reaked havok on my machine. As it was closing the installation I kept getting an error message about a delayed writing program that failed due to a hardware problem. I tried running the game but it ran too slowly, I gues the video card wasn't supported. Today I uninstalled an older program that I wasn't using and got the same error message. Then when the macxhine booted up again the fonts were unreadable, characters not even close to what they are supposed to be.

I started the system in safe mode and got the same unreadable characters. I then ran system diagnostics and the system board passed. I decided to reload the system with recovery disks but the system shuts down while the second disks is running. No error messsages , beep codes or anything. I took the keyboard and cover plate off to check for dust and the system looks clean.

Any chances the hard drive failed? Or could the software from SH4 actually have caused permanent damage to my video card> Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I hjave since tried using both factory recovery disks and the DVD disk (plus R&R) but I still have the same problem. Everything seems to be loading fine the the system just shuts down. When I look in the events log in R&R it has a

RRU Error code 2 , Unable to load driver : Error 2 SetFilter (BackupEngine)

Does anyone know if this could be caused by a failed hard drive, or a system component, BIOS entry, ect?

It seems that the motherboard has gone out. My next question is if I order a new Motherboard will it come with the dedicaded graphics card installed (128 NVIDEA), I'm sure the current one is attached to the motherboard.

Actually, the card is swappable...one of the very few ThinkPads that allow that...

so I guess that means if I ordewr a new motherboard it won't have the video on it, most likely have to take it off my old one, what if that was the problem?
