A31 Backlight Problem

#1 Post by msnyder101 » Wed Dec 31, 2008 10:12 am

I have an A31 whose screen goes dark shortly after unplugging the AC adapter. I can still see the screen in certain lighting conditions.
I have read multiple posts here on bad inverter or backlight. However never did anyone specify that it only occured when running on battery.
Could this be an entirly different problem?

I'd be tempted to try a new battery. Is the current battery well used? Also check your power management settings for battery.

Update

I discovered the problem is a little deeper then I first thought.
The Laptop doesn't recognize that it is on battery power (the power icon always says AC power).
With the adapter unplugged. The battery meter will stay at 100% then suddenly drop to 1%, the same time the screen goes black(dark). Also when I check the battery information it says that its charging even though the computer is not plugged in.

Yes, this sounds like one or more bad cells in the battery. Worst case is the charging circuitry on the systemboard or a fuse, but try a battery first. Borrow one if you can.
