LCD gone?? buhuuuu

#1 Post by malachont » Thu Jan 01, 2009 3:01 pm

Hi all and happy new year,
My A31p LCD suddenly has gone dark. After 4 years! looking closely I could still see a faint image of Windows working there, but very very dark, as if just the backlight lamp has burnt or something.

I took it to Lenovo labs (in a Middle Eastern country) and they want... 1,000 dollars to fix it...! they refused to put up a 3 foot gold plaque commemorating me as a charitable donor on their building so I took the machine back.

Could it be just an inverter or something like that?

needless to say it still works fine with an external monitor.

many thanks

Your CCFL (also called backlight) is burned out and needs to be replaced.
Either look for a replacement LCD panel, or a whole lid.
For a lot less than $1000.- you could send it to Jamiphar on this forum, who can repair it.

It would, if it's the same screen size (15.4").
But there are 3 screens to choose from: XGA, SXGA+ and UXGA.
If you get a full lid, you'd have a matching set of LCD, LCD-cable and the inverter.
It then depends on your gfx chip if it can handle what you want to put in.
I'm not very familiar with the A3x series, so I don't have all the answers.
What is the exact 7-character TYPE of your A31p?

All the A3x screen assemblies work on any A3x motherboards. I have a UXGA assembly on an A31 now.

Of course best is to find another UXGA or a SXGA+ assembly. There are Flexview LCDs.
