dvd-r disks unreadable

I have burned, carefully, both a dvd-r and a dvd+r disk on a good burner on another system, but neither are readable by the dvd-cd-rom drive that is in my a31p (2653-r9u). Is this a typical problem with this particular drive?

IBM is "married" to DVD-R format this should work not the +rthat is what happened on my depicable A31p NGC 4160 drive[/b]
