Won't hold "Hibernate" setting??

#1 Post by pt1209 » Wed Jan 07, 2009 9:26 pm

Recently I've found my battery has been dead after my Thinkpad has been sitting, recently walking past my closed thinkpad I heard it beep as if coming out of Standby and this was with the lid still closed. It seems my R40 comes out of the standby mode on it's own even with the lid is closed, not sure if it's something as simple a vibration setting it off but it's been coming out of standby and killing the battery. So I changed the setting to go into Hibernate when the lid closes but now I can't get it to hold the "Hibernate" setting!

Control Panel/Power Options/Advanced.... When I close the Lid on my Portable Computer I set it for "Hibernate" then click "Apply then OK out and it won't hold it, I go back in and it's set for "StandBy"..

What the heck is going on here??

It could be that you have a certain device enabled to wake the computer from sleep mode, like keyboard or mouse. Go to device settings, right click on a certain device and see if it has Power Options tab. You can disable it waking the computer there. Also, you could try disabling Wake on LAN function in BIOS.

I know if you go into Device Manager and right click on the WiFi adapter link, select "Properties," and then select the "Power Management" tab, there's a box that can be checked which says, "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby." It's accompanied by a warning which reads, "Allowing this device to bring the computer out of standby may cause this computer to periodically wakeup to refresh its network state. If you travel with this computer or run it on battery, you should not turn on this feature as the machine may awaken at inopportune times or consume the battery." I'm not sure if this is your problem, but perhaps it is something like this ...

I checked all the devices mentioned and none of them have a Power management tab for setting it to wake my thinkpad from standby mode... for some strange reason which I won't complain about it seems to be holding the "Hibernate when lid is closed option" so I will live with that instead of worrying about it coming out of standby unintentionally.
