fun+F5 hotkey function not working in r50e series

#1 Post by rachitdhasmana » Tue Jan 13, 2009 5:01 am

hi

i am using ibm thinkpad r50e series, recently i installed wifi at my place.
my laptop has no seperate switch to turn the wifi radio on. Every time i have to switch it on by going thru device manager to network adapters and then setting the properties for wireless card, this becomes tedious..........

i found that this thing can be done using hotkey function fun+F5 but it doesnt work on my system.
can anybody help me in this matter

thanks
Rachit

Sometimes in some weird (reinstall, or when AC is removed) cases not even hotkeys drivers will help (it happened to me)...

But this workaround solved the issue:

1. Uninstall the wireless driver using Add/Remove Programs
2. Uninstall the Hotkey utility using its Setup program (uninstall is an option in the
Setup app; it doesn't appear in Add/Remove Programs control panel)
3. Restart
4. Delete the Hotkey folders from C:\Program Files\Lenovo\PkgMgr [key step!]
5. Reinstall the Hotkey Utility and the wireless driver (don't reboot if prompted)
6. Restart

Use this only if hotkey drivers DO NOT help...

My bluetooth connection for my wireless mouse died and at the same time, the Fn+F5 stopped working. This was on my T42P. Acfnf5 (or something similar) would run when I looked at the process manager, and there would be multiple instances but it didn't do anything. I removed and installed hotkey to no avail. What finally worked for me was removing Access Connections. That restored the Fn+F5 functionality. I never used Access Connections anyway.
