Z61t with integrated GMA950 does DVI+VGA - the proof [PIC]

#1 Post by dr_st » Fri Jan 16, 2009 6:35 am

In the past there has been lots of confusion regarding the ability of the GMA950 integrated graphics on the Z61t to output a DVI signal via the docking stations.

The picture below clearly shows that it is possible. The Z61t in question is the one I had recently acquired from GnatGoSplat, with a C2D CPU. This is one of the late Z61t models, which according to the Tabook can output DVI, as opposed to the earlier Core Duo-based models, which apparently could not.

Shown here outputting both to a VGA and a DVI monitor, via the Advanced Mini Dock.

This is the exact model of the Z61t:

I also have a T60 with GMA950, which can also achieve the above through the same mini-dock:

I think there was a specific list of the models with DVI pass through. I have a factory C2D Z61T I am typing on right now, but it is a 9440CTO so it does not appear on the list, so I dont know if it supports DVI Pass through.

I really like this laptop though I hate that there is no flush 6 cell battery for this generation of widescreens.

The Tabook mentioned DVI output support for all Z61t's that were released as part of the "Napa Refresh" platform, in October 2006, with Core 2 Duo CPUs, and only them.

From this I deduce that any Z61t that originally came with C2D has DVI passthrough. I would not be 100% sure about the CTOs. I would assume that at the point where you could configure a CTO with C2D, all the models were already shipping with DVI capabilities, but I cannot know for sure.
