problem with HDD in A31p

hi

I have thinkpad A31p with 60G HDD, and the C: drive was damaged and I cannot boot the win xp from it

how can I backup the (Ibm_service partition) to other drive like ( CD or DVD or external HDD) and also how can I backup my important files?

Buy a second hard drive adapter (about 50 $), put the old HDD in this adapter and in the ultrabay, then install a new HDD. Ask IBM for the recovery CDs and install a new OS on the new HDD.
