A31p Mini-PCI Wireless Card

#1 Post by JimH8189 » Fri Feb 13, 2009 2:31 pm

I have an A31p (2653-R9U). I'm curious if there's an 802.11G card that will fit into my machine? Maybe a card that went into a later model ThinkPad that will fit the slot in my A31p.

I think you will need to do the "no-1802" patchg to use a "g" card. Most of the A31p machines I've seen don't have antennas built in.

Hello JimH8189,

I have an A31 and recently installed an Intel 2200BG mini-PCI adapter.
Despite what is written on some websites about the A31 only accepting genuine IBM mini-PCI adapters or having to patch an wireless adapter before it will work, the Intel 2200BG worked right away. No beeps, no error messages from the BIOS, directly recognized under WinXP and Ubuntu.
Kind regards,

Erik

Thanks emeu1 I just placed an order on eBay for one. I hope it works as smoothly as yours did.

AC will not identify non-native cards correctly. So you will need to select "Use Windows..." Zero utility option to configure the card.
