Secondary Hard Drive as Bootable Drive

#1 Post by babaloo » Mon Feb 16, 2009 8:44 pm

I just completed a clone backup of my R40 hard drive using Acronis True Image 2009. The backup is on usb exterior hard drive. Can anyone tell me how I can use the exterior as my bootable drive to check if is a true clone?
Thank you.

If the R40's BIOS permits booting from the USB port, then it would be a simple matter of pressing the F12 key when booting to get to the Boot Devices menu and selecting USB. However, if the system does not permit booting off the USB port, then, assuming that there's actually a notebook-sized hard drive inside the external enclosure, remove that drive and swap it with your existing R40 drive. If the external drive does not fit/interface inside the R40, then I'd suggest getting another notebook drive for the R40 and loading the Acronis image onto it. If and when your original R40 drive dies, you're going to need a replacement drive anyway.
