cracked my z61t

#1 Post by sportfreak » Thu Feb 26, 2009 11:36 am

hey guys..

i guess today is one of those days where in i got out of the wrong side of the bed.
i fell down my bike and i seem to have broken the lcd of my thinkpad z61t
and also the system made a weird beep sound when i switched it on for the first time..it dint again.

first thing as usual i called up lenovo and they said that i had to pay close to $900 itseems for the cost of damage
i was like ****

then i searched on ebay for LCD's for Z61t and it did bring up promising results

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-LENOVO-THINKPAD ... 1|294%3A50

this one seemed ok, but again i would need you guys to help me figure out how i would go about this issue..do you guys think i can fix this issue, by myself..where do i go about from here???? :jhem:

any help with regards to this issue would be GREATLY APPRECIATED :help: :help:

thanks!!

Are you familiar with the Hardware Maintenance Manual (HMM) for your computer? If not, search for it on Lenovo's website. It should describe how to exchange the LCD. See whether you are comfortable with performing this procedure. It may be easier to exchange the whole LCD assembly (basically the top of your Thinkpad), if you can find that one for a reasonable price. Alternatively, check with local repair shops (maybe even Lenovo authorized ones) what they will charge you for doing it.

BTW, the LCD from eBay is not the correct one for your machine. You need WXGA+ (1440x900) not WXGA (1280x800)...

And I'd completely agree that it's much easier to swap the whole lid than just the LCD itself, especially if you haven't done it in the past.

Good luck.

Is there any physical damage to the plastics/covers anywhere?
