A22P 2629UTU Dual Display

#1 Post by Sarge » Sun Jun 06, 2004 9:51 am

Hi :D
Just bought a refurb A22P, simular to units at work.
Units at work do Dual monitor/Extended desktop, they are on Win 98
My A22P is on Win 2000
I have not Dual monitor option.
Any way I can get this function?

Win XP home?
What will my problems be like?

Thanks

If you wish to continue using W2K, you'll need an additional video card such as the Margi Display-to-Go card or similar.

Otherwise upgrading to either XP home or Pro will give you the expanded desktop capability you have on the machine running W98.

I'll call Margi in the coming week.

I'll have to access the expense and trouble of the two routes.

Display to go may be the answer.

Thanks

Anyone else been in this situation?

I went through this situation several years ago with my venerable 600X when I installed the first Beta of W2K and quickly came to the realization that I could no longer expand the desktop of my Powerpoint presentations to my projector.

Fortunately, I had installed W2K in a dual-boot with my existing W98SE install, so I was able to continue with a re-boot. But it took a lot of discussions on the MSDN and MS Beta forums before I was able to determine that this basic function was no longer natively supported by W2K.

Took the release of XP Pro, and later Home, before we got it back.

I've used the Margi DtG card for years in a procession of 600s, T21, T23 and T30 with very good results.

depending on the video system used by the A22P, you may be able to do it with a simple hacked driver, that is, if ATI's catalyst series has a similar driver to whatever ATI chip is in the A22p.

I know my A22m has a Rage Mobility and could do multihead in W2k.

i'd like to run my A22M in dual monitor - extended desktop mode as well.
i have a rage mobility. i use win2k. any recommendations as to:
1) access the system board without destroying things
2) locating a source of the Margi Display-to-Go card (if that's applicable to my notebook)?
3) modifying the driver to enable extended desktop mode in win2k?

thanks,
-Kent
