Can't restore to factory contents on R50e
Can't restore to factory contents on R50e
Hi,
Using IBM/Lenovo R50e running Windows XP.
The computer for unknown reason become extremely slow.
I wish to return it to it's factory defaults.
I read in the manual that I should do that by pressing the "Access IBM" blue button, just after startup.
All I get in that menu is:
"ESC to resume normal startup
F1 to enter the IBM BIOS Setup Utility
F12 to choose a temporary startup device".
I do not see any other option.
I checked and found that the recovery partition in there, it's not deleted.
How can I start that process of return to factory contents?
Thanks,
Amir.

Re: Can't restore to factory contents on R50e
Hi Amir.
It is possible that the recovery partition has become corrupted.
Downloading the latest version of Rescue&Recovery should fix it (through the System Update), although I am not sure which is the appropriate version for R50e.

With your ThinkPad off, push the power button and the minute you see the startup screen push the F11 button, hold it for just a moment and release it. That will take you to the rescue and recovery application. You may need to repeat this procedure once or twice until you get the timing of the button push just right. Also don't hold it to long. Just a bit longer than a quick press and that will do it.amir77a wrote:<snip> Using IBM/Lenovo R50e running Windows XP. The computer for unknown reason become extremely slow.

That's doesn't work.
I am keeping getting to Windows logo, or to the F1/F11 selection (Normal boot or setup) screen.
Maybe it's really corrupt

Perhaps that is the case, as F11 will work if the partition is not corrupted.amir77a wrote:That's doesn't work.

Re: Can't restore to factory contents on R50e
Just for the records of whoever read this thread in the future.
The problem was solved by reinstalling the Rescue & Recovery utility from Lenovo's website.
Probably the recovery partition was corrupted.
Noe F11 surely works.
Thanks for the helpers.

Or rather the predesktop area was broken. This can happen if R&R gets "damaged" in a suitable way inside windows (I hope Lenovo has fixed this).
