I need a fast decision

#1 Post by user303 » Wed Jan 26, 2005 5:29 am

I have to decide between these 2 R51's:

1) R51 2888Y25WLAN
Intel Pentium M Processor 735 1.70 GHz
256 MB PC 333 DDR RAM
40,0 GB ATA-100 4200rpm
15\" TFT XGA (1024x768);
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo V
Intel Extreme Graphic2, Shared Memory
V.92 Modem (56 Kbps Data, 14,4 Kbps Fax),
Ethernet 10/100/1000 Integrated; Firewire;
Intel 802.11 b/g WLAN;

€ 1245 (US$ 1620)

2) R51 1830Y4C
Intel Pentium M Processor 735 1.70 GHz
512 MB PC 333 DDR RAM
80,0 GB ATA-100 4200rpm
15\" TFT XGA (1024x768);
DVD Multiburner plus (DVD+/-)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, 32 MB DDR-SDRAM
V.92 Modem (56 Kbps Data, 14,4 Kbps Fax),
Ethernet 10/100/1000 Integrated; Firewire
Intel 802.11 b/g WLAN

€ 1445 (US$ 1880)

Is the dvd burner, +256mb ram, radeon 9000 and the larger harddrive worth the extra € 200 ?

you get double the ram, double the hard drive, and dedicated graphics that runs 5 times faster. number 2 is much better. Don't even consider the first option, you can't upgrade the video on a laptop... get the best you can afford

well this is dissapointing...

The company where I wanted to buy the second R51, said it was a typo... this machine is indeed a SXGA version and costs 1745 and not 1445 Euros...

darn, what a let down... I should have known... too good to be true.

I settled with Nr. 1

Yes I thought that, because every XGA model i have seen had a Radeon 7500 as mine. and bad, that i cannot upgrade it, but better, so most of the games work with DirectX 7 Features and don't lack at the highest detail.

Get #2 but without the DVD mult-burner. Get the Combo (DVD-rom/CDRW) instead. Later, when a better multi-burner comes out, you can upgrade. You will save yourself a lot of money and the purchase will feel a lot better.

I think now that's too late to decide.
