G40 bios wont update...

#1 Post by jmansouri » Sat Mar 14, 2009 4:33 pm

i have a g40 233bnu and i cant get the bios update to work...

its stuck on 1.14 and i think there's an update to 1.23?

the problem im having is with the battery....

if the machine is off and the power is disconnected then the battery drains as if its in sleep mode or something.

also it has been turning off like the battery is dead if not plugged in after 20-30 minutes even with a full battery charge.

any suggestions?

Maybe it's a faulty battery?

i dont think so, because if i fully charge the battery then shut down the computer and then remove the battery.....i can two days later re-attach the battery and it will have a 90%+ charge...

it seems like i read somewhere that it could be remedied by a bios update...which is why im going down that road....

A battery only lasting 20 - 30 minutes is on it's last legs. I agree with Yak. If you are saying it's a new battery, then you need to test it in another machine.

i apparently am not describing the conditions correctly.

If i plug in the g40 and charge up the battery, then unplug and use the machine then the battery will last 2+hours.

If i plug in the g40 and charge up the battery, then unplug and leave the machine off, the battery will discharge over the next few hours....without using the machine.

If i plug in the g40 and charge up the battery, then unplug and remove the battery, then let it sit for a day or two, then reattach the battery, it will still have a full charge. For some reason the laptop is discharging the battery while its off....similar to being in sleep mode....a slight discharge that over the course of a day will deplete the battery.

otherwise it works just fine.

i'd like to update the bios to make sure that there isnt some power management update but i cant get the bios update to take. I run the lenovo bios updater and it seems to go through all the steps, but when i go back into the bios the version hasn't changed.
