R61e---Where's the internal mic?

#1 Post by Grumpy » Sun Mar 15, 2009 3:11 pm

7650-84u. Cannot record without using an external mic. I thought all Thinkpads had internal mics. My old R51 did. Does this model not have an internal mic? If it does where is it located?

You guys are pretty smart I must admit! Now I have a comment and another question about this...

First, the link in the 2007 post referred to above is a broken url referring to a PS Reference guide which I assume is now days called the TA book. I found the Feb 2009 TA book which references machine type 7650 but not my -84U model (which I assume has been discontinued). My model is called an R61E (not I), though the 7 digit type/model I posted is correct. I will assume for now that the 7650 type does not have an internal mic since none of the 3 digit suffixes listed have it. Other R61 machines do state "internal Microphone".

Next question...just ordered a T500. Nothing in the order process mentioned mic. The order process just mentioned a type of 2081-CTO. There is no model 2081 in the Feb 2009 TA book. But all the T500 models that are listed mention "digital Microphone". Note that is not "Internal Microphone" as listed in some R61 series.

Any bets on whether my T500 will have an internal mic?

The answer is yes, it will.

The only recent and semi-recent Thinkpad models with no microphone are the "econmony" models (R50e/R51e/R60e/R61e). Usually it is the same models that don't have a touchpad.

Some of the R61e's are indeed branded as R61i's, which is confusing, because other R61i models are like regular R61 and have microphone/touchpad. Model number and Tabook are the most reliable source of information.
