Plugging an external hd with E-sata into the internal SATA

#1 Post by LasseFJ » Mon Mar 16, 2009 5:55 am

Hi everyone.

I've just bought: http://www.everythingusb.com/seagate-fr ... 15790.html

and after seeing the tests, I can't stop wondering, if I could use just plug it directly into my sata connector, where my main harddrive is now? (Open the bay where my internal harddrive is now)

I'm using the machine as a low power server, and have no real intention of moving it, as i've got no shortage of laptops/computers.

Do you know if this is possible?

Regards
Lasse

SATA and eSATA use different connectors. Why not get an eSATA card so you can run at eSATA speeds? You don't mention your machine type/model or available card slot/types, so I can't get more specific than that.

Isn't that eSATA card an express card? Could it run eSATA at full speed?

It has an ExpressCard/54 slot. Yes the card will run at full speed..as an example -
