Screen Garbled. Do I need mobo? (see pics)

Before I scrap for parts I thought I'd make sure that this looks like it will take a motherboard to fix.

R51 1836 ATI Radeon 9000 (not a card). Screen started morphing while I watched. After about 5 seconds it turned into what you see below. No amount of tapping, flexing, banging on components under the keyboard changes anything. An external monitor attached displays the same images.

Will it take a new motherboard the fix?

Yes. The GPU is shot.
