R60 powers on then off in seconds

#1 Post by athlonus » Sun Mar 22, 2009 3:12 am

Hello,

I just have obtained a R60 15" with an unknown history. The laptop looks in very good shape with some spill marks under the keyboard. When the power button is pressed it turns on with the indicator leds on only for 2-3 seconds. Then it turns off again. After that point it needs the battery uninstalled and reinstalled to power up again. Of course it does power off again in seconds as I mentioned...

Does any one have some suggestions about this symptom?

Thanks in advance!

I'd try re-seating the CPU, to begin with.

I'd also remove the RAM to check whether the machine beeps on start-up without it.

If there was a liquid spill, chances are that you're looking at mobo swap.

Good luck.

I will try that. This symptom reminds me of the t4x graphic chip problems. Powers up for only a short time and then gone...

Any other suggestions are very welcome.
