Problem fitting T42p UXGA into R51 [PIC warning]

#1 Post by jargoone » Tue Mar 24, 2009 7:21 am

Hello-

I posted earlier about moving an UXGA panel from a T42p into an R51. Following the advice in that thread, I took the panel, cable, and inverter out of the T42p lid, and put it in the R51 lid. I got everything back together, and something didn't seem to fit quite right when putting the keyboard bezel back on the R51. After some head scratching, I realized that the switch on the LCD connector is in a different place on the UXGA cable than it is on the SXGA+ panel I took out.

Clips from the HMMs are below. The little "cube" on each connector denotes the switch.

T42p:

I was too tired by the time I was finished to go any further. Did I take too much of the cable? Or is this not a direct swap?

Thanks for any help. 8)

I thought I may have been missing something but I don't think that's the case. After I looked up the parts, I determined that this is not a direct swap. The R51 and T42p cables are different enough that it won't work with the keyboard bezel.

For anyone that might find this thread in the future, I was able to hack the lid switch on the underside of the keyboard bezel to make it work. I didn't take pictures, unfortunately, but it was fairly straightforward. It involved snapping off a small piece of plastic with a small block of foam attached. Once that was done, I bent back the copper "lever" on to itself and snipped off the "box" at the end of it. After a little adjustment, it looks and works just fine.
