R60, change LCD 1024x768 to 1400x1050, change inverter?

#1 Post by Van GORRE » Thu Apr 02, 2009 4:24 pm

I have a question connected with a situation which looks as follows:
- I'm an owner of R60 (w/ 945 chipset on board) w/ Intel GMA950 video card and LCD w/ 1024x780 res display. I have the opportunity to buy a LCD w/ 1400x1050 resolution display (from other R60 w/ ATI video card).
Now, If I would like to swap these LCD's (from lower to higer resolution), will I also have to change the inverter or LCD which goes straight to the LCD panel?
will I also have to change the inverter or LCD cable
which goes straight to the LCD panel?

I went through answering this sort of question when I upgraded my lcd from an xga. Generally speaking, yes, you need to replace the other parts too.

However you might be in luck this time, you can check the hardware maintenance manual - look at what parts (from the FRU number in the parts and maintenance section) the r60 with a(n?) xga screen uses, then check which one the sxga one uses. If they are the same, you are all set. I did not have to change the inverter or cable on my screen.

If I recall correctly, you do NOT have to change the inverter and cable on an r60 when you upgrade the screen. But you should double check.
A forum member told me what I needed to know at the time I was upgrading.... and here I am returning the favor to someone else. VIVE LA FORUM!

Unfortunately you can't just check the voltages etc. because they do not seem to be published anywhere :-(. You should be able to just download the datasheets, but most manufacturers of lcds keep them secret (seriously.)

(Does this model support AHCI?)
