accounts still there after reinstalling xp

#1 Post by ekdya » Sun Apr 12, 2009 7:13 am

Hi

my A31 get infected with some virus, I reinstalled XP pro but notices that the old user accounts are still listed under Documents and Settings. so I am guessing this is not a good clean and I need to reformat it.
how do you format the hard drive on those. I tried to find a way when I inserted the xp pro CD in but could not.

thanks.

I'm pretty sure that there's a way to re-format the drive during the XP install, however, that's not the way I do any of mine. Instead I use a dedicated disk drive diagnostic program or something like PC Doctor, which has a routine for erasing the drive. Once this is done, then boot the Windows CD and everything should work correctly. I've found that it's not necessary to erase the entire drive; usually 10% is good enough.

If you're using a XP CD and not the recovery discs, the setup programs gives you the option to delete any partitions. It's usually right after agreeing to the license.
