Maxing my R32
Hi everybody
Im starting to give up the thought of getting a never (than mt R32) for under £100.
So I thinking of hotting up my Thinkpad R32 to the max instead.
I only have 1,2Gb RAM so 1 more GB is already planed.
But what more can be changed? The HD of course, but what more? CPU? some other bits and parts?
My current CPU is an Pentium 4 M 1,7Ghz
Aaaah and of course... I'm using Vista on it since me and XP aren't realy the best of pals.
cheers in advance!

The CPU's that originally came installed on R32's are listed at the below link. Pay attention to fans for the faster processors, because heat may be an issue. You want the correct fan.

Re: Maxing my R32
Well, if you up your budget a little, to around $200, and if you visit the US or know someone else that will, you can find a nice T4x, R51 or X31. That'd be a nice upgrade.
Other than that, a new, large hard drive and a CPU are the way to go.

Re: Maxing my R32
Thank you guys...
If I get a 2.0Ghz CPU do I really need a new heatsink? (probably a dumb question but I have to ask)
I'll get a new HD, RAM and probably CPU and then i'll wait out the summer to see if theres room in the budget
for something newer.

Yes, you need a new heatsink (if you do not have the correct model for that CPU) unless you don't care about holding a toaster in your lap or about the longevity of your laptop.

Re: Maxing my R32
Does anybody know how big Boost it will be if I Max the RAM to 2gig from my 1,2gig?
Will I notice it in Vista?

62P4162 fan, 26P8473 2.0Ghz CPU - Pentium 4-M. You can try a faster CPU, but they run hot.

Re: Maxing my R32
Ok... a little uppdate.
I uppgraded the RAM and I hav an Ultrabay HDD Caddy on the way.
I also got myself an wifi card for it... This is when I realized that those who
bought the computer in the first place got cheep an saved a few bucks by not making it wifi ready...
So I'm a bit stuck now.. I guess I need to get an antenna but what more? will an antenna do the trick
or do I need something more, like cabels or contacts or something like that.
I'm usedto fixing Apple laptops so I know my way around an computer... eventhough I'm having som
difficulties cracking this one up to se hat I need.
Is ther any good "dismantel you R32 guide" on the net?

Re: Maxing my R32
I can confirm the 2gb ram upgrade for the R32 I ordered after reading the post, installed enabled extended memory and it worked right out of the box no problems whatsoever and my klikit linux runs twice as fast now..
sorry for the off topic just wanted everyone to know it was confirmed for the 2gb ram upgrade in the r32
