Hard DD partition failure...

#1 Post by Macflo » Mon Apr 27, 2009 2:43 pm

Hello Forum :

After 40 days of nice and uneventful work my new HDD samsung 160g gave a bluescreen with catastrophic message : UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DRIVE
I removed the drive and placed in an enclosure so I can read and copy the second partition on it but not the partition where the OS (windows xp pro) is. I still have important files in this partition, what should I do to access and copy those files to any other drive?
I called samsung and receive a RMA # to return the drive but first I want to recover some files, thanks for your help.

Most commercial recovery labs can get that data off for you. I had a Toshiba HDD failure on my T41 a few years back and the cost was huge. A year or two later a friend's HDD failred and I use a utility called Findpart.

I was able to recovery near all content on that drive.

Svend is a very knowledgeable guy but he is busy. So you will have to catch his attention to help you.

Hi Thinkpadder, thanks for your reply and help. I used the software you suggested and could get my files from the damaged partition.
Not too easy because I almost forgot DOS syntaxis but it worked.
Thanks again.

Good for you. Most HDD failures other than head crash are recoverable.
