Link to Reformatting a t61/z61

#1 Post by codek » Mon May 18, 2009 6:00 pm

I did a couple of searches and couldn't find instructions on how to do a install on the t61/z61 w/out all the thinkpad software.

Can anyone post a link?

If you still have the restore partition you can do a custom restore where you un-select the software you do not want.
If you want to use a regular Windows install you will need to find an OEM cd and slipstream the SATA drivers to it.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I no longer can restore my laptop. I also believe my hard drive is failing. Sometimes it will work, most times it will freeze and restart itself.

If you're doing Vista you don't need to slipstream the SATA driver because Vista already has it. If you have the SWTools folder from the original install, all the applications and drivers installed on your ThinkPad are located there. Otherwise you'll need to download them from Lenovo as System Update is no more.
