A31p display died.. cause?

#1 Post by malachont » Tue May 19, 2009 5:18 am

Hi all
my A31p display died, but it still shows a faint black and white LCD image of windows. How can I find out if its the inverter or something more serious? I found a replacement LCD for $128, its part number 05K9967, it says "UXGA", does it mean its the flexview and is that a reasonable price or a suspiciously low one? and if I get this part does it include everything that could have gone wrong, i.e. inverter, lamp, cable?

many thanks

A couple of things here...

Has your LCD been reddish/pinkish on initial boot prior to that last episode? If the answer to that is "yes", then the backlight in the LCD has gone south. If not, it may be a couple of other things as well...

That is the correct part for the given LCD, however, is it new, used...what's the source?

If it's not a brand new LCD then that's a lot of money since I can sell you a complete lid with wireless/BT antennae, cable and inverter, not to mention a very decent (one pressure mark) LCD itself that is still VERY bright for half of that sum...PM if you are interested.

Of course, post any additional questions/comments here and I'll be happy to walk you to almost anything and everything when it comes to A31p units.

I think it did that reddish thing but this has been going on for years... the day it stopped working I think it just flickered and went out.
One of the LCDs I found here

What kind of work is involved in replacing just the LCD panel as opposed to the whole frame? and is your part a flexview. Would any method require gentle soldering?

Thanks for your assistance...

Well, your backlight was nice enough to give you plenty of notice before it died...

Replacing the LCD itself is a lot more tedious than just swapping the lids, especially if your machine has wireless/BT.

And yes, the LCD I have is a FlexView.
