A31 Suspend Problems

#1 Post by Bobby G » Sat May 01, 2004 11:06 pm

Greetings:

I have an A31 Thinkpad that I've been extremely happy with. I'm using Windows 2000. Recently I used Windows update for several updates including "Analong Device inc multimedia software update" and IBM System software update. Since then, frequently, when I enter suspend mode under battery operation, the laptop will not come out of suspend mode. Or if I enter suspend mode under AC operation then try to leave suspend mode while under battery operation, it won't come out of suspend mode. It only occurs when it is using the battery, it is fine on all A/C. I NEVER had this problem before, and there does not appear to be any way to uninstall the updates. If anyone has any suggestions, they are much appreciated. Hibernate works fine.

Thanks,
Bob

NEVER DOWNLOAD any update from the Windows Update/Driver Update site. The two updates should be listed in the Add/Remove Programs.

Because the M$ updates are generic ones based on the chipset used in whatever device is being updated without any consideration for other installed devices.

The IBM drivers have usually been modified to work on a family or series of machines (and sometimes even single machines) taking all of the additional installed devices into account and have been tested for machine compliance.

Sorry to say, the updates that were added are not listed under "add/remove" so it looks like I'm stuck with them.

I don't completely agree with NEVER using Windows Update to download drivers etc. I was able to update the ATI video drivers that way which made a tremendous difference; and those drivers weren't available on the IBM update website.
