R50e strange problem

#1 Post by stef942 » Fri Jun 05, 2009 4:35 am

Hi all, kindly need help

I have a strange problem with a R50e type 1834-S9G :

i bought it without hdd, it is supposed to have a problem, i can start it normally, i can get acess to the bios, every seems ok
but as soon as the hdd is supposed to start to load xp after the bios checks, i get blank screen with only the green power led, no hdd activity.
What i already did :
- try different memory stick
- try different hdd
- remove the cmos battery to reset the computer
- try to re install xp, install start fine but as soon as the hdd should start => blank screen, no hdd activity
- update bios to 2.1 with a boot cd rom

It is like the IDE channel is locked or has a problem, i don't know what to try now, maybe dissassemble it to check the MB?

Thanks for yr help, if you have an idea :?:

Welcome to our Forum.
You could start with this (HD trouble shooting): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4YQLGR
Followed by HD quicktest: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGr-70578
Next in line, run PC Doctor: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-56222

To take your R50e apart, download the HMM: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54932

That should keep you busy for a while!

Hi, thank you for yr help,

I try the HD quick test : all passed
I try pc-doctor : video test of intel 855GM failed after Render 2D blit test, system hangs and go to blank screen :x
Can it be a soldering problem like the t4x?

Could try a Linux disc to see if that works.

Run PC Doctor again, but this time do individual tests, without the graphics.
By the way, do you know that the hard disk fits upside down in the R50e?
Maybe you inserted it the wrong way, or it is not properly aligned.
Make sure to use the HD caddy.
