R Series UltraBay Purchases(Huge Pic)

#1 Post by ZaZ » Sat Jun 13, 2009 3:01 am

I bought this CD/DVD USB converter and this hard drive caddy. Both were specifically designed for the R series. They took about a week and a half to ship, coming from Shanghai.

I got the adapter because it would be useful for hooking the UltraBay adapter directly to my PC for files transfers, instead of dumping it onto my external drive and then onto my notebook. The CD/DVD converter worked well. I used it to connect my Blu-ray drive to my desktop and watched The Terminator Blu-ray disc via USB. It could come in handy where you need to hook up an extra drive or for a driveless notebook like the X200. I'd say if it's a dedicated external you might want to buy the case for it, which is also available on eBay.

I got the caddy because I've been toying with the idea of getting a SSD then putting my regular drive into the UltraBay. The caddy seemed to offer decent build quality and worked. The coloring is a darker gray, which doesn't quite match the black ThinkPad color. The fit probably is not quite as good as if Lenovo had made it, but it's not bad. The bezel should have been tapered a bit better to fit the casing. The nice part is there no big gap like when using the using the Lenovo made slim UltraBay hard drive adapter.

Admin edit: Points for making a note of the PICS in the subject line but removed the second inline image as the first one is kinda big just by itself.

Thats a great idea. So you can have two hard drives now? Any performance issues?
