R61i - Upgrade from Smartcard slot to 4-in-1 Media Reader

I ordered part #42X3831 (PC Card/4-in-1 media reader slot) to upgrade from part #42X3829 (PC Card/Smart Card slot). My thinkpad is an R61i, type-model is 7732-a12. I didn't bother with the bezel since it was another 30 something dollars. I got the part number from System Service Parts List at the following link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... Now the problem I'm having is, after replacing the parts, I'm still able to use the PC Card slot, but the media reader slot doesn't work. I've tried on Windows XP Professional with SP3 installed, and on Windows 7 Build 7100. No new hardware is found in either OS. I've checked in BIOS and it switched from saying Smart Card Enabled, to Media Reader Enabled (or something like that, I can't remember the exact words). Point is I'm sure the BIOS sees it and it is enabled.

I tried running the Ricoh 4-in-1 Card Reader Driver installation but it doesn't help, I guess because it isn't showing up in Device Manager in the first place. I even returned the first order for a replacement thinking the first was defective. Second one gave me the exact same results.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Thanks in advance.
