What happened with my Z61m?

#1 Post by karagunis » Wed Jun 17, 2009 1:52 pm

Yesterday I try to activate my laptop and it didnt wake up just signaling
on status indicator Power ON.... Warranty expired last year i think
Simptoms:
- nothing on screen, no sound signalization
- when connecting AC adapter, AC power status turn on without sound alarm
- hard disk and CPU fan have power supply because i can hear them when its ON..
- before it happens laptop was connected with AC adapter (which is OK, 20V on
output) and LAN cable, but ADSL router still works fine...

I know that something destroy mobo or maybe CPU, but dunno which way?!?

Welcome to the forum!

In order to help us assist you better, could you please post the 7-character model number of your Z61m?

In the meantime, try this: remove the hard and media drives, battery and unplug the AC adapter. Press the "power" button ten times in a row, holding it down for ten seconds each time, and thirty seconds the last time around.

Plug the AC adapter back in and try to power on.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Good luck.

Nope...nothing...

I suspect on CPU because its cold when i touch it with finger, GPU and mobo chip goes very
quickly on higher temperature when powered on...

If thats not true than its mobo nightmare...  :help: :help: :help:

Motherboard that doesn't beep when the RAM is removed is clinically dead...

Good luck in sourcing the replacement.

Ebay I think has some cheap ones. Or the Market forum maybe.

UNLESS some freak accident destroyed the speakers and something like the Pentium chip died. But probably the motherboard is just plain dead.

Good luck

I found that maybe the problem with my mobo is GPU chip ATI Radeon X1400 which have one chip in the middle and four similar chips around. One of that similar chips was heating more than the other three what may be the cause of dead mobo. The fact is that laptop was using mostly with external vga output (lcd was almost unused) and maybe that was speed up failure on GPU..

Do i need reflow GPU or something else? :help:

Btw. I didint find anything suspicious on the mobo except this heating problem on GPU?!
