R32 CPU upgrade

#1 Post by RickRand » Thu Jun 18, 2009 11:29 am

Hi all. I've recently aquired a thinkpad r32 that had a broken screen. I've fixed it and was thinking about upgrading the CPU. It currently has a 1.6 GHz Pentium 4 - M. Can anyone tell me what CPUs are supported on the r32. Thanks a bunch!

First off: Welcome to the site my fellow Illinoisian!

2nd: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:R32 will tell you that there was up to a 2.0ghz CPU offered in the machine. This link: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_Mobile_Pentium_4-M should tell you what processors can work in the machine. I don't know if it's a good idea to go up to the 2.6ghz due to heat.

It's all explained better in this post:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=75836 asks the same question you did. It should help a little.

Thank you much! appreciate it. I'll look those over. I found this machine in the trash lol. the screen was smashed. cost a whole 22 dollars from ebay to get her running again. Just a toy now, like to see how far i can take her. Thanks again :-)

heh save your money, 2.4 still sucks, while the 1.6 is sufficient

Sucks compared to WHAT? A Core Duo? Dothan PM? Obviously...

I've done this upgrade on many A3x and T30 machines and found it to be worth the cost. You can check the benchmark performances here:
