Unknown device / A31 / Bluetooth !?

#1 Post by emeu1 » Sun Jun 21, 2009 6:29 am

Hello,

I've got an unknown device displayed in Device Manager (after a fresh install from the recovery CD's as I bought a bigger hard disk (120GB) for my A31). ThinkVantage System Update wants to install a Bluetooth device driver. My A31 is a 2652-CXG. As far as I know and according to Lenovo's website, my A31 (and a 2652-CXG) has no integrated Bluetooth.
Looking a Lenovo's website for the Bluetooth drivers, it says the Bluetooth drivers are only for the A30p, A31p, T30, X23, X24 and X40.
So I'm a bit confused.
Can it be that my A31 has integrated bluetooth?
Does anyone know how I can (physically?) check if my A31 has bluetooth or not?
Kind regards,

Erik

Open de MiniPCI door, and see what cards are in there. AFAIK the word BLUETOOTH is printed in a corner of such a BT card.
Maybe there is a combo BT/modem card or similar?

It's highly unlikely that your machine has bluetooth, since it left the factory with no antenna, and no BT switch on the lid.

Having said that, I have no idea off the top of my head what your unknown device would be...

Try the ACPI driver.

Usually, BT cards will not show up until they are turned on via switch on the screen, Fn+F5 (not on A3x) or in AC.

Hello,

I opened the mini-PCI door.
Installed are a:

- CDC Ethernet card
- CDC Modem card
- mini-PCI Intel 2200BG wireless adapter

No bluetooth also.
So I decided to de-install the Bluetooth software.
Re-booted the A31.
In device manager, all "Bluetooth communication ports" are gone and also no unknown device anymore.

So problem solved although I still find it strange that Windows initially reported an unknown device.

Thanks for all the help.
Kind regards,

Erik
