A30 - can i replace 14'' display with 15'' ?

#1 Post by mbulu » Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:15 am

Hello all,

My old A30 recently died (video card problem). I decided to buy a used one, insert my old HDD and have a backup machine (or give it to my child he becomes 2-3 years old).

Yesterday I got the "new" (used) A30 and was surprised to see that it's screen size is 14'' (I expected that all A30s have display identical to the one that I liked so much). I used to work in 1400 x 1050, but the "new" A30 supports max 1024 x 768 :(

The model of the "new" laptop is 2652-13U
The model of the "old" laptop is probably 2652-3xx (it does not have sticker)

The question is - can I remove the 14'' display and replace it with the 15'' display ?

Any feedback is appreciated, thanks in advance !

Yes, you can. You'll need the LCD, LCD cable and the front bezel. There are two metal filler brackets that you need to remove and discard. The machines with XGA resolution likely have the least amount of video RAM. But it should run.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I can remove the whole "upper half" from my "old" laptop - is that what you call "LCD, LCD cable & front bezel" ?
Last time when I opened my "old" laptop, its "upper half" was connected to the "bottom half" only via single cable (plus a couple of screws)...

Should I replace the whole "upper part" ? Or should I disjoint it and replace something inside it ?

Just take the entire "upper half" of your old laptop including hinges cable and all and swap it with your "new" laptop. I've done that a few times and works fine.

Thanks

The tech guy at the company (that sold me the used laptop), told me to not to try this, because motherboard hardware is different on those two models and I will fry it.

I should simply ignore this warning, right ? (Sorry for double asking, but I do not want to damage the laptop again :? )

Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual here:

You will see which parts are different and which ones are the same.
