Z61t fan speed - never goes down?

#1 Post by plympton » Tue Jul 07, 2009 11:58 pm

Hey all,

I picked up a Z61t from a fellow forum member, and it's great. The only real quibble I have with it is that when the fan kicks up to 2800 rpm, it NEVER goes down! This isn't a horrible thing, but it's just spinning there blowing cold air out.

I can fix this with tpfancontrol, but I'm going to give this machine to my brother in law and he wants to run it as a hackintosh (yeah, I know, get what you pay for, etc).

Anyway, this seems like a bug of some kind, no? The CPU temp has gone down to as low as 39 degrees C, which SHOULD be rather cool, no?

Also, I've tried the latest BIOS, and I'm going to try each one in succession, but figure I'd ask the world before calling up Lenovo support...

Thanks!
-Dan

PS: The system is running XP Pro, SP3, all updates, current Lenovo drivers, etc.

Partially answering my own question - I went back to the original firmware & EC, and it was indeed slower - even running a CPU Burn-in program, I couldn't get the fan to go above 2200 RPM. So I'm like, "cool!", but then it started creeping up slowly to 2810 RPM again.

What the heck?
