A31p question

#1 Post by toddreg » Wed Jul 08, 2009 7:00 pm

I got my dad a used A31p from this forum some time back. He is having some memory issues which makes keeping his computer operating challenging, he comes up with some really creative ways to screw it up. Anyway he called and said it wasn't working- again.

It wouldn't boot, I could see the hard drive light underneath the screen flickering but didn't hear a hard drive nor did the screen ever light up. Now, I don't know a lot about laptops, never had one. Stupid question time, where is the hard drive on this thing. I started looking for it in a slot on the side but all I find is the dvd/cd drive. Is the hard drive supposed to be beside it? I have seen people pop the hard drive out of a laptop and this is where it was located on their machines.

I am thinking he has removed and/or lost his hard drive perhaps. Before we go to why the screen isn't coming on perhaps this is why. If not, any other ideas?

Thanks

Hook the laptop up to an external LCD and let us know if you see an image then.

Although a defective hard drive (or RAM, network card, media drive...) can very well prevent the machine from booting, my assumption is that your A31p has developed a motherboard problem.

Probably the GPU problem.... happened on an A31p I had even with the FireGL chip.
